The email service provided by SIC are different between students and faculty.
Email address is described in the official paper of 'Account and Email address notification card'.
In addition to the email address in form of 'email@example.com' described in it, you can use the email address in form of 'firstname.lastname@example.org'. Both email address will be arrived in same mailbox.
The kind of campus email service are different between students and faculty.
In-campus email service is a service that send or receive emails using web browser or email client software.isused by web browser or email software. It is provided by the in-campus mail servers
Mailbox size is 4GB. If it is over quota, an error mail will return to sender.
If you are enabled 'Internet access to Campus Email' setting by AMI, you can access the Webmail service (Active! Mail) or campus email server via IMAPS, POPS, SMTPS protocols without using SRAS VPN.
If you wish, please change the settings of 'Internet access to Campus Email' to 'Enable' by AMI.
There is a setting to forward emails arrived at campus email server
Email forwarding refers to the operation of automatically re-sending emails delivered to campus email address to a different email address such as the email address of your internet service provider or your cellular phone.
The setting of email forwarding are available at AMI with following operation. Click 'Email forwarding' from left menu, then select 'Email storing' as you want, then enter email addresses into 'Forward address 1-3'.
Please be aware that email forwarding may fail as the restriction of destination system.
There are two method to access campus email service.
Webmail is an email client application implemented as web service. Webmail reads the emails stored in the email server before showing as web pages. Webmail has ability to send and read emails anytime, anywhere by a web browser without installing email softwares. SIC introduce 'Active! Mail' as webmail.
Although Gmail is a webmail at out of campus LAN, 'Active! Mail' is a webmail at campus LAN accessing email servers on campus LAN managed by SIC.
Although Email client software can be used in combination, the setting of receiving protocol must change to 'IMAP', if the setting of receiving protocol is 'POP3'.
There are no settings needed to use webmail. However if you want to use webmail from Internet (outside of campus LAN), you should enable the setting 'Internet access to Campus Email' by AMI in advance.

SIC recomends IMAP.
* SMTP Authentication is the mechanism to authenticate sender before sending email.
The Authentication of sender by SMTP server (email sending server) prevents unauthorized email relaying and abuse of email account.
You can not send emails with the email client software that not support SMTP Authentication.
Gmail of G Suite for Education used while attending is even available after graduation.
The accounts of undergraduate and graduate are treated as different accounts. Even the case of going on to our graduate school, the account of undergraduate is also available.
Gmail of Google Apps for education used during tenure is even available after retirement.
